YES!
Strength and fitness generally is one of the most overlooked parts of golf by amateurs. Guys want to go out buy new clubs and instantly be better. I'm sure you've heard the old saying "it's the indian, not the arrow", this applies to golf too.
As to what to do, this depends on your condition now.
As a general idea, you want to increase flexibility around the ankle, hip and shoulder joints. Concentrate on both static and dynamic flexibility.
You want to increase strength primarily in the legs, core and back. Forearm and upper arm strength can also be useful.
