That sound you hear? That’s Rory McIlroy on the comeback trail. And the techno music in the background.
On Wednesday, Rory McIlroy took to Instagram to post a workout video, perhaps teasing a return at next week’s PGA Championship.
“Working hard every day to come back stronger #dontmindthegrind,” read the caption.
The video only adds to the confusion about the current world No. 1’s status for the year’s final major. On Monday, Reuters, citing a source, reported McIlroy had scheduled a Saturday practice round at PGA host Whistling Straits. A day later, Irish Golf Desk quoted McIlroy’s spokesman saying that wasn’t true.

Now we have this video that suggests a return is imminent, but without a specific date. However, a lack of a cast or a wrap on the left ankle McIlroy injured in a July 4 soccer game with friends suggests he is on the road to recovery. The question is if that road ends next week in Wisconsin or it takes longer. McIlroy’s manager, Sean O’Flaherty, told the BBC that we should expect an update on Thursday.
