Tiger Woods pulled out of the Masters on Friday, announcing he wasn’t “tournament ready” and would be at Augusta National for the Tuesday Champions Dinner, but that was it.
On a media tour to promote his book about his 1997 Masters win, Woods said he was “trying everything” to get his body and game in good enough shape to compete in the year’s first major. And, according to Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte, Woods did indeed make an effort — albeit, a rather limited one.
“I was told that Tuesday was the first time that Tiger had been back out to Medalist since returning from Dubai,” Rosaforte said Saturday on “Morning Drive.”
“Secondly, he was out there again for a session later in the week. I believe it was Thursday. And I was told he was there for less than five minutes.”
Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed for Rosaforte that the 14-time major champion started hitting balls with full swings this week yet maintained hope he could compete at the Masters. Woods’ full-swing work was largely done at his home on Jupiter Island in his in-home simulator and on his personal short course.
It doesn’t appear we’ll hear from Woods directly on Tuesday during a previously scheduled news conference at Augusta National. Woods said in withdrawing that there is no timetable for his return.
