Phil Mickelson makes clutch birdie putt on the final hole to tie for U.S. Open lead

To put it mildly, it wasn't the best putting day for Phil Mickelson. Lefty leads the PGA Tour in birdies per round this season, but found himself on the final hole at Merion without a single circle on his scorecard.

The 18th, a par-4 playing 521 yards, is not normally the place you'd expect to make your first birdie of the day, but that was the situation Mickelson was facing as the sun was fading on the second round of the U.S. Open.

No worries, Phil calmly rolled in this bomb for a birdie and a very respectable round of 2-over 72, leaving him 1-under for the week and tied atop the leaderboard with Billy Horschel.

With Phil's week already resembling a roller coaster, did you expect anything less?
