Tiger Woods injured again…this time, by hotel bed

Tiger Woods enters this weekend’s Barclays, the initial event of this year’s FedEx Cup, as the favorite to win the whole deal once again. And, since it’s not a major, he’s probably going to throttle the entire field and walk away with another two-comma check.

But it won’t be easy, no. Woods has taken his first lumps this playoff season before swinging a single competitive club. The culprit? A soft hotel bed.

Woods skipped drives and approaches on the back nine of a Wednesday pro-am, saying that he’d suffered the injury the night before. And, yes, someone asked Woods if he’d have a new bed, and Woods simply smiled and answered, “We’ll have something.”

This is the latest in a range of injuries that have beset Woods this year, although this seems relatively minor compared to the elbow and back problems that gave him difficulty throughout most of the summer. Woods, naturally, says he’s fine now.

Now, before you go make some joke about golfers not being athletes because they can’t even beat up a soft mattress, keep in mind that back and neck injuries suck, and the back and neck are kind of necessary in golfing situations.

The Barclays begins Thursday, and the FedEx Cup playoffs run until the late-September Tour Championship finale at East Lake in Atlanta.
