Majority of Tiger Woods’ peers think he’ll win at least one more major

When Tiger Woods announced last week that he would play in this week’s Masters, a common response was: Why?

Woods has almost always maintained that he only competes if he feels he can win. Now that Woods feels his game is at least “tournament ready,” the 14-time major winner can resume the latter stages of his quest to catch Jack Nicklaus’ 18-major mark.

While a lot of golf fans would scoff at the idea of Woods ever again adding to his major tally, a majority of Woods’ PGA Tour peers think he will win at least one more major title. In a survey of 103 PGA Tour players conducted by ESPN.com, 62.1 percent said they believe Woods will win another major. With one abstention, 36.9 percent said Woods wouldn’t.

The caveat to this is that the players didn’t all respond at once. Among the responses received before the start of the 2014-15 PGA Tour season, just 7 percent said Woods would never win another major. However, among respondents who have had a look at how Woods has played in limited action this season, 49 percent responded he wouldn’t win another major.

An equally curious question in the survey was uniquely worded: “Fill-in-the-blank is in a fight in the parking lot. You’re not helping him.”

The player mentioned the most? Bubba Watson, with 22.3 percent of respondents mentioning his name. In second was Patrick Reed.
