I think it’s fair to say that the SUV has become a staple for Canadian families. With so much competition out there, it could be a daunting experience for the consumer to keep up with all the new options now available on the market.
This week I got to experience the 2015 Nissan Rogue SL AWD and it certainly didn’t fall short of any expectations. With its bold new look and improved driving experience, the second generation model has improved in nearly every way. From the evolving sleek interior to the new shape and style.
The first thing I’ve notice is the improved power. Its proven 2.5 litre DOHC 16 valve four cylinder engine (which produces 170 HP and 175 Lb of torque) is now mated to the next generation Xtronic CVT with sport mode. It’s a big improvement from later models where the transmission moaned loudly under hard acceleration.
The Rogue takes off nicely and the acceleration is smooth and linear. That’s not surprising considering the Rogue weights 1643 kg. However there is a Sports mode option hidden by your left knee, just under the steering wheel and once you find it you’ll feel the acceleration is much quicker and greatly improves the driving experience.
AWD does come standard with the SL model. In normal conditions, the Rogue will drive with the front wheels for maximum fuel efficiency.
The design of the interior cabin is slick, elegant and comfortable. The front center console is easy to access and laid out for quick perception. The touch screen LCD Monitor makes it easy to access their user friendly GPS system and it comes with built-in XM Radio with enough station options for just about anyone’s taste.
There are 2 round knobs for climate control and because I’ve only driven the Rogue during a Vancouver heat wave I can’t comment on the comfort the heated seats might afford you in the cold winter days, however the air conditioning climate control system was excellent and much needed!
The Nissan Zero Gravity seats are a welcomed addition, especially for anyone that has to do those exciting 2 hour commutes to work every day.
I found the Text Messaging Assistant along with the Blutetooth Hands Free Phone System really convenient. It took me no more than a minute to get connected.
The SL model will give you all the power option’s you could think of and one of my favorite features is the moon roof that opens up from front to back.
With the “all in “price tag of 37, 033 CND I truly believe you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck with the 2015 Rogue SL. I really enjoyed our week together and found myself smiling every time I got behind the wheel. If you’re in the market for mid-size SUV with all the trimmings you would find in a much more expensive model like Mercedes or BMW then I invite you to take a few moments and take one for a test drive. Enjoy!
