You should always carry 14 clubs in your bag.
Here is what I carry:
woods: 1, 3, 5
irons: rescue club(3/4 iron), regular 4 iron, 5,6,7,8,9 irons
wedges: pitching wedge(48 degrees), utility/gap wedge(52 degrees), sand wedge(56 degrees)
putter
Note: You can get a lob wedge(60 degrees) if you so desire and take out the regular 4 iron.
