How many clubs are in a golf set, and what is each one used for?

According to USGA rules, a player can play with a maximum of 14 clubs. Normally, a set is made up of “Woods”, Irons and Putter. Each club varies in “loft” and is used depending on the type and distance of the golf shot that the players desires to hit.
