Winners and losers from a busy Colonial week

This past weekend saw a lot of great story lines and we are here to give you the good and the bad of it. Here are our winners and losers from the past week in golf.

Winners

Rory McIlroy — It wasn’t just the win for Rory that was impressive, but the way he won that really has people thinking this could be the jumping off point to more major wins, and soon. Rory’s 66 on Sunday was made all the better with his birdie-birdie finish that he ended up needing after his buddy, Shane Lowry, made a lengthy birdie putt on his final hole to end up just a single shot behind McIlroy. Now it’s up to Rory to carry this momentum not only to the Memorial, but to Pinehurst in hopes of adding a second U.S. Open title to his very young career.

Adam Scott — Everything about that back nine on Sunday at the Colonial was awesome, with Jason Dufner making a bomb of a birdie putt on his final hole of regulation to put the pressure on Scott, who couldn’t convert his birdie putt on the 18th green when he arrived which meant it was a playoff between two of the more recognizable faces in the field. Scott went on to win, becoming the first man ever to win all the PGA Tour tournaments hosted in Texas, and cementing himself as the No. 1 player in the world after Henrik Stenson made a run to take it from him after just one week.

Brendon Todd — A week after his breakthrough win at the Byron Nelson, Todd quietly finished T-5 here, meaning his trip to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area was very, very lucrative for the 28-year-old.

Final round 66s and 65s — Rory, Adam, and Dufner all posted final round 66s at their respective venues, while Colin Montgomerie and Jessica Korda went one better with matching 65s to take the Senior PGA Championship and the Airbus LPGA Classic, respectively.

Losers

Thomas Bjorn — The 43-year-old Dane entered the final round with a five-shot lead, but after Rory beat him by nine shots on Sunday it was a disappointing T-3 at Wentworth, who tied for the worst score of anyone in the top-29 on the leaderboard.

Non golf fans — This was one of the most exciting golf weekends of the year, with Rory winning the morning, Scott and Dufner battling it out in the afternoon, and Jessica Korda and Colin Montgomerie making it fun on their respective tours. As we head into the meat of the golf season, it’s nice to see some of the big names perform, and that is exactly what happened on Sunday.
