Will MacKenzie thought his tee shot to the par-3 sixth at Sea Island Golf Club had caromed off the flagstick.
"When I hit the shot it was like a ‘sorry you got screwed’ clap,” he said. But MacKenzie was wrong. He had just slam-dunked his ball into the hole for an ace.
“It was the most anti-climactic hole in one I’ve ever had,” Mackenzie said of the 8-iron he used for the hole-in-one.
MacKenzie, who enjoyed a bit of a career surgence for the first half of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season, carded a 5-under 65 in Saturday third round. He is tied with Andrew Svoboda for the lead at 12 under par after three rounds of the McGladrey Classic on St. Simons Island, Ga.
Were MacKenzie to win on Sunday, he would pick up third PGA Tour win and first in six years.
