Tiger Woods still unsure if he will play the Masters

If you’re still wondering about the possibility of Tiger Woods missing the Masters this year, you’re not alone, because even Tiger himself isn’t sure what will happen with his ailing back in the coming weeks.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday about his tournament’s new title sponsor, Woods echoed what he said on his website last week about the Masters, saying it is still too soon to know if he will be healthy enough for the first major championship of the year.

“For Augusta it’s actually a little too soon to be honest with you,” Woods said. “That’s kind of the frustrating thing. I’ve had a couple weeks off, working on trying to get ready for Augusta. “As of right now, it’s still a little too soon and as I said it’s really frustrating.”

Tiger’s 2014 season has already been a serious disappointment, finishing T-80 at Torrey Pines, withdrawing at the Honda Classic on Sunday because of back spasms, and after competing at Doral, had to pull out of Bay Hill this past weekend because of continued issues with his back.

A major championship miss for Woods at this point in his career would be a serious setback, but as of right now it seems his health is a bit more important than getting four rounds in at Augusta National. Tiger hasn’t won the Masters since 2005, has never won the Masters when coming in without a win earlier in the season and definitely won’t be as prepared as he had hoped considering all the time he is being forced to take off because of his back problems.

For now it almost seems like it would be a better long-term decision for Woods to skip out on the Masters considering what could happen if he went out and caused further damage to his back, but for now he is still waiting to see just how he will feel when Masters Thursday rolls around.
