Just before the unpleasantness of the Thanksgiving crash of 2009, Tiger Woods became sport’s first billionaire, with Forbes estimating the 14-time major winner to be a member of the three-comma club.
Woods has since gotten divorced, and his on-course earnings have taken a tumble from his peak performance. However, Woods is still worth an astounding amount of money. According to a Forbes estimate, Woods is now worth $ 740 million, ranking him seventh of their list of the top 20.
The magazine estimates Woods has earned $ 1.4 billion since turning pro in 1996.
Woods’ valuation makes him the second-richest athlete, behind Michael Jordan, whose business holdings and Nike relationship push him to the fourth spot with an estimated fortune of $ 1.2 billion. Woods, however, is the youngest person to make the Forbes list of the wealthiest celebrities.
Another golfer made the list, too. Phil Mickelson comes in with an estimated $ 375 million net worth. At No. 18 on the 20-person list, Mickelson is the only other active athlete on the ranking.
George Lucas of “Star Wars” fame comes in at No. 1 on the list with an estimated net worth of $ 4.6 billion.
