Rory McIlroy made two eagles in six holes on Thursday at the BMW PGA Championship

It has been a pretty crazy 24 hours for Rory McIlroy, who announced on Wednesday that he and fiance Caroline Wozniacki were splitting up and had a tee time on Thursday in one of the biggest events of the year on the European Tour.

Rory started out a little sluggish, making two bogeys after just five holes, but then his game came around and we saw a bit of why McIlroy already has two major championships at just 25 years old.

First came the par-4 7th, where Rory landed his second shot well past the flag only to watch it spin back perfectly, taking the break and softly going in for the unexpected eagle.

Then came another of those majestic creatures on the par-5 12th, when Rory hit an approach shot that might top the one that actually went in the hole earlier in his round. Rory’s approach from a little over 200 yards landed incredibly soft, rolled towards the hole and stopped just inches short of going in for the albatross.

Rory would tap in for his second eagle in six holes, and sign for a 4-under 68, good enough for a T-8 after one round of the BMW PGA Championship.
