Nicholas Thompson’s astonishing water save could have gone so very wrong, but goes right

There’s nothing better than trying something ridiculously stupid and pulling it off to perfection, is there? In the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Nicholas Thompson found his ball on the edge of the water, and instead of taking a drop, he stripped off his shoes, waded in, and … boom.

Thompson’s shot from the water ended up mere inches from the cup, an exceptional shot reminiscent of Bill Haas’ 2011 Tour Championship approach. However, while that shot effectively won Haas more than $ 10 million, this shot only gave Thompson a par … as well as one of the season’s top moments. (Got to love the fact that he putts out barefoot.)

It was perhaps the lone highlight from Thompson’s round; he finished +3 on the day and is +5 for the tournament.
