By one estimate, Tiger Woods is no longer the highest-earning pro golfer. That title, for now, belongs to Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson raked in more money in 2014 than Woods, according to a new list published by Forbes. It’s the first time Woods hasn’t been the best paid player in golf in his pro career. However, the margin was pretty slim — at least when talking eight-figure sums. Mickelson earned an estimated $ 50.8 million to Woods’ $ 50.6 million.
The difference seems is about a fourth-place finish in a normal PGA Tour event. Though both players each had an awful 2014 by their standards, Mickelson did earn $ 2.2 million more than Woods in on-course earnings.
While all of us would gladly take almost $ 51 million per year — hell, in a lifetime — both players’ earnings pale in comparison to the estimated $ 300 million Floyd Mayweather Jr. made.
