Dustin Johnson holes out from 159 yards for welcome-back eagle

Welcome back, Dustin Johnson.

Johnson played his first PGA Tour round in six months on Thursday, coming back from a leave of absence at the Farmers Insurance Open. The bomber didn’t take very long to remind his peers what he’s capable of doing.

On the par-4 fourth of the South Course at Torrey Pines, Johnson made an eagle by holing his second shot from 159 yards. The hole-out took Johnson to 2 under par, but was followed by consecutive bogeys and three more dropped shots before a birdie at his 17th hole left him at 2 over par before play was suspended due to darkness.

Johnson last played on the PGA Tour on July 25, 2014, when he missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open. On the eve of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Johnson announced he was taking a then-indefinite leave of absence to deal with “personal challenges.” Golf.com reported Johnson had been suspdended for six months by the PGA Tour for a third failed drug test under its anti-doping program, this time for cocaine. Both Johnson and the Tour have disputed the Golf.com report, and Johnson has denied he has or had a problem with cocaine.

On Jan. 20, Johnson became a father when fiancee Paulina Gretzky gave birth to Tatum, the couple’s first child.
