Craig Stadler will make this his final Masters after son Kevin qualified with win

Yes, Kevin Stadler’s win on Sunday at the Waste Management Open was his first ever on the PGA Tour and it also gets Kevin in the Masters for the first time in his career. Who will he be joining? The 1982 winner at Augusta National who also happens to be his father, Craig Stadler, making them the first father-son duo to ever compete in the Masters together.

Kevin snagging that win over Bubba Watson on Sunday at TPC Scottsdale means the two will be in the field for the first time together come April, and it will also be their last after Craig told The Golf Channel that this will be his final appearance at the opening major of the year.

“It’s really my last one,” Craig said. “I kept saying, ‘You know, when he gets in, that’s my last one.’ I’m going to have to get in a little better shape for the next three months. It’s going to be great. It’s awesome.”

It’s pretty cool to think of Craig and Kevin getting to spend hours on the famed links of Augusta National during the practice rounds, with Craig giving Kevin some tips that the 33-year-old can use for future Masters appearances.

Kevin admitted after his round that the thought of playing with his dad at Augusta National was “in the forefront of my mind when I was out there,” so now the two get their wish and it will be a pretty special few days for these two as one ends a great career at the Masters while another begins his.
