Ian Poulter looked pretty tasty on Saturday at the RBC Heritage…to an alligator.
The Englishman found himself with a share of the lead as he made the turn in the third round at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, S.C., when he hit his tee shot on the par-4 10th into a water hazard.
Poulter, who is trying earn $ 145,000 this week to fulfill a major medical extension this week to maintain his PGA Tour card, then took a drop and penalty stroke for the errant tee ball. After taking the drop, Poulter reset to find himself within striking distance of a lurking alligator in the same hazard where he just hit his ball. He was well aware of the gator as he prepared to hit the shot.
The gator wouldn’t scoot away until Poulter’s caddie got a little aggressive himself with the reptile.
In the end, Poulter made a double-bogey 6 on the hole. However, he finished the round with a 2-under 69 that has him just three strokes off the lead heading into the final round.
