Beau Hossler came up just short in his bid to become low amateur at the U.S. Open, but the week wasn’t a complete waste for the 17-year-old senior-to-be from California.
For one, he held the lead in a major championship for a couple holes during the second round and received some serious airtime throughout the tournament. Also, his impressive play made an impression on AT&T National tournament director Greg McLaughlin. Instead of getting one shot to tee it up with the best golfers in the world, Hossler will get another shot at Congressional (site of his first U.S. Open appearance) next week, after McLaughlin confirmed, via Twitter, that the teen would be the AT&T National field.
Beau Hossler last player in 2012 @ATTNational. Will try to pair him with Jordan Spieth and Justin Leonard. #texasforever.

According to GolfTalkCentral’s Ryan Ballengee, Hossler, who already committed to the Texas Longhorns, was hoping for a pairing with future teammate Jordan Spieth and former alum Justin Leonard, but Tour officials confirmed the threesome wouldn’t happen.
No matter, Hossler still gets another shot to exact some revenge on Congressional (he missed the cut at the 2011 U.S. Open), and spend another week living every teenage golfer’s dream. That’s not a bad way to kickoff the summer.
