Most beginners have trouble hitting the center of the club face and getting the club face square at impact. Both of these things can greatly affect the flight of the ball. Fortunately, golf equipment manufacturers have made it easy for us.
Irons with a deep cavity and wider sole can help alleviate the problem of off center shots. These clubs have more “meat” behind the ball wich adds forgivness to the heel and toe of the club. If you have trouble with open club face at impact, you can get them offset. This helps the club face get to the ball a little bit later which gives it more time to get square.
For drivers, there are oversized square-headed drivers. Once again, the square head adds more “meat” to the toe and heel of the club which helps with off center shots. Drivers can also come offset, closed face, or open faced to help you get square at impact. As far as a brand goes, you just have to hit all of them and decide which ones you like best.
