If you are thinking about hosting a golf tournament, or helping someone who is, there are a couple vital elements you need. Let’s face it; you want the tournament to run as smoothly as possible. That is the only way for everyone to have a good time. The last thing you want is for a lack of organisation to ruin it. To make sure that doesn’t happen, here are said essentials.
Course
Without a course, you cannot play golf. Maybe you can play golf, but it won’t be golf that is fit for a tournament. The course can make or break the afternoon’s entertainment. If it is too easy, there is no competition. But, if it is too hard everyone will struggle to enjoy their day of golf. All sport has to be both challenging and rewarding at the same time.
Good Weather
Golf is an outdoor sport, and the weather plays a big part. In this case, you want it too hot rather than too cold. If it is bitterly cold and raining, it makes playing even harder and far less enjoyable. The course can become impossible, and the conditions will make everyone want to go home. That is the last thing you want. Apart from scheduling the tournament on a good day, however, the weather is in the lap of the Gods. Cross your finger and hope for the best!
Rules
Organized fun might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but without them a tournament can go up in flames. Set out the rules beforehand so everyone understands how to play and there is no confusion. For example, a lot of tournaments take handicaps into consideration to give everyone a fair crack of the whip.
Volunteers
The more people that take part, the better the tournament. If there are masses of people turning up to play, it adds a sense of competition. There could be poor players, and there could be brilliant players. It doesn’t matter because everyone loves a challenge. Try and twist as many arms as you can for the best possible tournament.
Crowd
A solid crowd will add that hard to come by element that all tournaments need: atmosphere. A little bit of atmosphere goes a long way and adds more value. You shouldn’t expect the crowds that turn up at St Andrews, but a few tens of people should be the trick.
Prizes
Every tournament must have a winner. All you need are a few trophies to give away at the end of the day for the big winners. Premier Trophies, a supplier of trophies and medals, is a good place to find affordable awards. Once you have the trophies ready to go, you can present them at a ceremony after the event.
Venue
You can’t have a ceremony without a venue. A good venue will have enough space to seat everyone and will serve food and alcohol. After a hard day’s work, there is nothing better than a beer and a burger.
That should just about cover it!
