These days, it’s rare to see a superstar athlete speak candidly on hot-button topics like race or politics. Most likely have an opinion on the subjects, but when every word that comes out of your mouth is over-analyzed, it’s easier to keep your thoughts to yourself and keep them guessing.
Tiger Woods is without a doubt a superstar athlete who falls into this discussion. We rarely hear Woods voice his opinion on off-course issues these days. However, if you go back into the archives, you’ll find footage of Woods talking about, among other things, race as a 14-year-old to Trans World Sport in a rare interview that was posted on YouTube to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the company.
You never see Woods get this personal these days — and rightfully so following the hydrant mishap — but it’s still great to see the 14-time major winner, even as a 14-year-old, speaking candidly about hot-button issues. Give it a watch if you have five minutes.
