What a summer it has been for Tiger Woods. But at long last, there is some promising news to report regarding the 14-time major champion.
On Thursday, Woods took to Twitter to announce that doctors had given him the go ahead to practice his short game as he continues to recover from lower right back fusion surgery that he underwent back in April – the fourth procedure to his back in recent years. Sporting a pair of Oakland Raider shorts and a tank top, the 41-year-old posted a slow-motion video of him hitting a pitch shot from just off the green during an apparent practice session.

It’s comforting to see Woods back playing golf, even in a limited capacity, after a whirlwind recent months in which he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida and subsequently entered a treatment facility for his use of prescription pain medication. In early August, Woods entered a plea of not guilt for the arrest and will take part in a diversion program for first-time offenders in the fall. His toxicology report from the night of the arrest was later released, revealing that Woods had a plethora of drugs in his system including Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC.
Although Woods will be on the links in a non-playing capacity at next month’s Presidents Cup as an assistant captain to Steve Stricker, it’s going to be a long while until we see him competing on the PGA Tour again. Woods was unable to compete in any majors this season and his last start took place at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, where he missed the cut.
