Some weeks are really busy for golf, meaning some stories you should know about don’t get the full Devil Ball Golf treatment. In an effort to keep you in the know, we’ll sometimes round-up important golf news from the week that was in something we’ll call Whole-In-One.
- Patrick Rodgers is on his way to the PGA Tour. The Stanford stud picked up his first pro win on Sunday in the Web.com Tour’s Colombia Championship. He was a six-time winner in his final college season and won the Jack Nicklaus, Haskins and Ben Hogan awards. Remember the name.
- Lydia Ko is still No. 1 in the Rolex Rankings. After becoming the youngest person to ever hold a No. 1 ranking in golf, the 17-year-old Kiwi could have lost her top position at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic. However, Inbee Park’s T-5 finish wasn’t enough to unseat Ko, who finished T-7.
- Sei Young Kim broke through for her first LPGA win on Sunday in the first hole of sudden death against Sun-Young Yoo and Ariya Jutanugarn.
- Paul Goydos has two wins in 507 PGA Tour starts. He now has two Champions Tour wins in 12 starts. Goydos won the Allianz Championship on Sunday with a par-5 birdie on the final hole to beat Gene Sauers by a shot. Fred Funk was among a group tied for third two behind Goydos.
- What would a story be without a Tiger Woods mention? Woods is now going off at 50-to-1 odds for the Masters. Betting on golf is one of the dumbest things you can do. Even at these odds, this is not a good bet. Don’t bet on Tiger Woods.
