Gators on a golf course are so commonplace that nobody pays any attention to them. (Well, until one bites a golfer.) And sharks have shown up in golf course water hazards, which is where you’d expect them to be. But a shark ON a golf course? Man, we’re in a whole new world here.
Your scene: the San Juan Hills Golf Club in San Juan Capistrano, California. Monday afternoon, a group of golfers approached the 12th tee. There, writhing on the grass, was a live shark. It was only two feet long, not like a Great White or anything, but still: live shark on golf course.
Bear in mind, this course is about three miles from the ocean. You know what that means: HOLY CRAP, SHARKS ARE FLYING NOW! THE END TIMES ARE NIGH!
Well, either that or the shark was carried from the ocean and dropped. Puncture wounds on the shark seem to suggest that the shark was picked up by a predatory bird … a clumsy predatory bird, apparently, which failed to get its dinner all the way home. Club officials took the shark back to the ocean and released it at Dana Point, where it swam away with one heck of a story to tell its shark brethren.
Hey, it could have been worse. The golfers could have found a dead scuba diver.
