There are few moments in sports that can be remembered simply by a saying. We’ve had The Drive and The Catch but golf shots struggle to reach that type of level. Not in 2012. Bubba Watson found himself well right of the fairway on No. 10 in his playoff with Louis Oosthuizen, needing a miracle of sorts to get the ball near the green.
Then came The Shot. As Bubba explains in the above video, all he had to do was hook a wedge 40 yards to a green that runs away from him, and he pulled it off so well that guys like Jack Nicklaus were calling it one of the best golf shots they’d ever seen.
When you think about the difficulty of the shot without all the pressure of a major championship, and then add in the fact that Watson was going for his first major and the honor of winning one of the coolest things in all of sports, it really makes you realize how good that really was. It’s Bubba Golf at it’s finest, and it was one of the best shots ever at Augusta National, which is really saying something.
