Michelle Wie has faced a rough season on the LPGA Tour in 2016, missing the cut in 11 of 19 starts heading into this week, including the last four in a row.
The skid appeared set to continue on Friday at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, when Wie came to the par-4 17th at Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club on 1 over par for the tournament and on the wrong side of the cut line. However, her fortunes changed with an impressive second shot that found the bottom of the cup for an eagle 2.
Suddenly, Wie had moved from 1 over par to 1 under par. Fortunately, Wie made par on the 18th hole to lock up a spot in the weekend field. That’s the good news. The bad news? Wie trails leader Ariya Jutanugarn by 11 shots heading into the final 36 holes.
