If there is one thing we can always count on when talking about John Daly it’s that we never have any idea what is going to happen. The 46-year-old has been a staple on the PGA Tour for decades with his long drives, crazy behavior and temper that could blow at any time, and if there is one story of him carding a double-digit score on a hole there are hundreds.
On Friday at the Tampa Bay Championship, Daly was at it again. Playing well on the tough Copperhead track, Daly got to the par-4 3rd hole just 2-over for the week and inside the cut line. He left that hole 8-over for the week after making a 10 on the par-4.
Jason Sobel has the details …
After hitting his tee shot left of the cart path, Daly tried to punch back toward the fairway, but according to the PGA Tour’s Shotlink program, he could only advance the ball 5 inches. He was then forced to take an unplayable, try again, take another unplayable, and then hit one about a foot before advancing it into the left rough on his seventh shot.
Daly went on to leave his approach from 155 yards some 30 yards short of the green, but got that up-and-down for a 10. If nothing else, that hole was good for his putting stats!
The bad news is Daly missed the cut, his third in five starts this season on the PGA Tour, but the good news is he is far from Kevin Na territory.
Never change, John Daly, we like you just the way you are.
