This year I was coerced by a hockey writing friend of mine to do a weekly one-and-done golf pool that allows you to pick one golfer never to use them again in 2013. Since I’m doing it for fun (and DEFINITELY not for money, no way, no how), I figured I’d post my weekly picks here, with who I’ve already used under it and my record for the year, and against the others in the pool. We’re calling this Darts in the Dark.
Farmers Insurance Open pick: Nick Watney
There are a few things I really look for in a pick at events, with one being that the player I’m picking has played well here before (Watney won at Torrey in 2009, finished T-9 in ’10 and T-6 in ’11).
Another is that I’d like to see that player coming in playing some good golf, and Watney isn’t far off here either, finishing his 2012 season with a couple of wins at the Barclays and the CIMB Classic and finishing T-13 at the Hyundai.
Watney is the type of player to rack up high finishes if he’s hitting it well, and I expect more of the same this week at Torrey Pines.
