It has been a very good two-week stretch for Aussie pro Richard Green.
Playing in the Oates Victorian Open this week in his native country, Green made a par-4 hole-in-one during the tournament pro-am. That’s cool enough. Then he managed to win the tournament on Sunday, prevailing in a two-hole, sudden-death playoff at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links over fellow countryman Nick Cullen.
“It’s been a long time coming, I have wanted to come back to win and support the tournament and finally after 23 years of trying I have got it finally,” said Green afterward.
Then the week got even better as Green’s fiancee, Marianne Skarpnord, won the Ladies Oates Victorian Open on the same course by three shots over Su Oh and Holly Clyburn.
Green didn’t get to see the final putt drop as he was preparing for the playoff, but it didn’t make it any less special for the couple whose engagement is just a week old.
“It’s almost a dream come true – a fairytale,” Skarpnord said. “We got engaged last week, we moved into the house (at host course Thirteenth Beach) on Monday, Greeny had an albatross on Wednesday and here we are today both winners.”
