Last year’s Ryder Cup was a disaster for American golf. The United States team was barreling towards a win before the Sunday singles came crashing down on them, and instead of a celebration, fans were left scratching their heads wondering what exactly it’s going to take for the U.S. to win this event again.
But the good news is, the Ryder Cup doesn’t exactly translate on the PGA Tour. So far in 2013 the Americans have swept the PGA Tour events, going nine-for-nine this year.
The crazy part is, five of the 12 members of that Ryder Cup team for the United States have already won an event this year, not to mention some other up-and-comers that have the potential to win multiple times in their careers.
Dustin Johnson, Russell Henley, Brian Gay, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker, John Merrick, Matt Kuchar and Michael Thompson have all found themselves in the winner’s circle this season, and the dominance from the U.S. doesn’t stop there. For the first time since 2008 we had an all-American final at the match play, and the top-13 players on the FedEx Cup standings board rock the red, white and blue next to their names.
So yes, American golf might be in trouble in one team format event, but it seems on the PGA Tour it’s the United States that has flexed their biceps this year and came out in a flurry.
