A 10-year-old qualifies for the U.S. Amateur. Really.

All right, this is insane. But in a good way. Latanna Stone, a 10-year-old, four-foot-eight golf prodigy, has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Think about that for a second. A 10-year-old is already playing better golf than you are or probably could ever hope to. (It’s OK. We won’t tell anyone how upset that makes you.)

For perspective, the U.S. Women’s Amateur is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in the sport, dating back to 1895. Before the rise of the professional game, the men’s and women’s amateurs were considered on par with the other majors. Winners of the men’s amateur include Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods; Morgan Pressel, Juli Inkster and Grace Park are among the women’s notables who have won the women’s event.

The future belongs to Ms. Stone, who was born on September 4, 2001 and has already won 102 tournaments. By shooting a 70 at the Wanderers Club in Wellington, Fla. earlier this month, she qualified for next month’s U.S. Women’s Amateur in Cleveland. She beats the existing record of 12 by, yes, two years.

Naturally, this being the 21st century, Stone has her own website, her own Twitter account (no, we’re not linking to a 10-year-old’s Twitter account), and a celebrity coach, Charlotta Sorenstam (Annika’s younger sister).
