Rory McIlroy thinks Brandel Chamblee was ‘completely wrong’ with Tiger comments

On Tuesday, at the HSBC Champions event in China, Rory McIlroy made it clear that if you go after his best buddy on tour you might also be going up against him.

Rory was asked about the recent comments by Brandel Chamblee on Tiger Woods where Chamblee implied in an article on Golf.com that Woods’ season, despite the five wins, was masked by rules infractions, giving Tiger a “F” grade on his season despite winning Player of the Year on the PGA Tour.

McIlroy, a man who faced his own struggles in 2013, beat Tiger in a made-for-TV event in China earlier this week, but now he’s standing up for his brother in Swoosh.

“Yeah, I think Brandel was completely wrong. I don’t think he has the authority to say anything like that about Tiger Woods,” Rory said. “People wouldn’t know who Brandel Chamblee was if it wasn’t for Tiger Woods, so I am completely against what he said and I think he should be dealt with in the right way.”

Rory joins the camp of Tiger and agent Mark Steinberg, who have come out and said they think that something needs to happen to Chamblee considering how severe an implication of cheating is in the golf world.

“All I am going to say is that I know I am going forward. But then, I don’t know what the Golf Channel is going to do or not,” Woods said on Monday. “But then that’s up to them. The whole issue has been very disappointing, as he didn’t really apologize and he sort of reignited the whole situation.

“So the ball really is in the court of the Golf Channel and what they are prepared to do.”

This whole thing has seemed to get out of hand, and no matter if you agree with Chamblee or not, if attention was what that article was hoping to get then job well done.

McIlroy is set to tee off on Thursday at the HBSC Champions alongside Luke Donald and Jason Dufner with his eyes set on a first win in ’13.
